“Training” For the B.A.A. 5K

Back in 2016, I shared my training plan for the only race that I ran that year, the B.A.A. 5K.

Week 1 | Week 2 | Week 3 | Week 4 | Week 5 | Week 6 | Week 7

This year I signed up for the virtual 5K, taking place the weekend of April 17th (we can run anytime between the 17th and the 19th).

I was really excited to get a training schedule going, and I printed one from Hal Higdon (I’ve used a lot of his plans for training). It’s tacked to my office cork board and I was supposed to start this past Monday, the 22nd. What happened you ask? Well, I went ice skating on President’s Day (so over a week and a half ago) and ended up falling right on my butt. Since then, it’s been painful to do just about anything. Disappointed smile (As I write this, I actually just set up a doctor’s appointment to see what’s going on.)

Went to the doctors…

Turns out I did do a number on the muscles in my butt. Luckily my tailbone wasn’t injured, but it’s been tough to do any movements. She prescribed me some stronger ibuprofen and muscle relaxers. Here’s hoping that it’ll help me feel better over the next week or so!

Once I feel comfortable enough to run, I’ll certainly be sharing the workouts I do throughout the weeks. I’ve also signed up for several challenges on the B.A.A. Athlete’s Village for the month of March. If you’re missing the running community, I highly recommend creating an account with the Athlete’s Village! It’s free and you can join some awesome and inspiring challenges. Smile

Are you training for any virtual races?
