My Birthday Weekend

Wow, what a great way to kick off 34! The festivities started on Friday afternoon and continued right on until Sunday night.

My coworkers were so nice to take me out to lunch to celebrate. A group of 7 of us went to Southern Kin in Assembly Row, Somerville. To start, we ordered their biscuits with jam and butter. (No picture because they were demolished!). For my entree, I ended up choosing the pulled pork sandwich with Brussels sprout hash.

That night, David and I dropped off Eleanor with my parents so that we could have a “couples only” evening. We had a steak and cheese calzone and buffalo wings while watching Thor: Ragnarok. <–Funny and fun!

Since Eleanor was with my parents, David and I were able to get up and ready early and get on the road to Maine.

I was treating myself to a hair cut and color! I wanted to change things up, and my cousin is an extremely talented stylist, so we made the 2 hour drive up north.

I LOVE it! She gave me some blonde highlights and trimmed it up. I love the curls, but I’m sure that’s not something that I can do every day. 😉

After the visit, we stopped off at McDonald’s for a Shamrock Shake and then hightailed it to Ipswich, MA for a 1PM tour of the Privateer Rum DistilleryOur tickets were complimentary; tour prices are $15 per person for a 90 minute tour, every Saturday at 11AM and 1PM.

The tour was extremely informative and the rum was delicious. The head distiller, Maggie, has a background in spirits and is currently going for her Masters of Wine. (For reference, more people have been to the moon than have passed this course.) I could go on and on about the history of the distillery, but I would implore you to visit on your own! And afterwards, you can enjoy a nice fried clam roll at the Clam Box. 😉

AKA: my birthday! 🙂 David made me the same breakfast as last year: pancakes and bacon!

The whole day was spent around the house. It was gorgeous outside, but so cold! At around 4PM, I met up with my mom in Worcester because we were going to see Jersey Boys at the Hanover Theatre! It was my third or fourth time seeing the musical, and I swear it gets better every time. Given how unique Franki Valli’s voice is, I find it amazing that they’ve been able to find singers that fit his musical profile. I think this was by far the best cast I have seen. We had so much fun.

And now I’m refreshed and ready for a new week (and a new year!) ahead. This weekend was just what I needed. 🙂

How do you enjoy celebrating your birthday? For me, it’s spending time with family and trying out new things.
