…with water and lemon juice.
While I know this is hardly groundbreaking, I figured it might help others who don’t know about this awesome trick. And in the very least, I can have it for my own reference in case I forget how many minutes this whole thing takes. π
Thankfully our microwave wasn’t ridiculously dirty, but I was in a cleaning frenzy this past weekend so the microwave got the special treatment.
Ewww…
First I made sure that all of the crumbs were disposed of so that there was only the mess on the sides of the microwave and on the tray. All you need is a bowl filled half way with water and some lemon juice (about 3 squirts). I haven’t had any fresh lemons on hand (those work as well), but lemon juice worked just fine. Place the bowl in the microwave and have it run for 3 minutes. After it’s done, time it for another 5 minutes. DO NOT OPEN MICROWAVE. This is where the magic happens. π
Once it’s completed, the microwave will look like it’s sweating. Take a damp cloth or paper towel and wipe down the sides and the tray. It comes off like *that*! And less chemicals are used in order to get it cleaned.
Every time I do this David asks if I’m going to blog about it. Well, now I can say that I did!
What cleaning tricks would you like to share??Β I’ve also read that vinegar works well for this application too. I would imagine that would be much more cost effective than using fresh lemons or even lemon juice.
