My Running Lately

In a nut shell, it’s been AWESOME!

(I just went back through my posts from earlier this year and realized that I haven’t shared the health journey I’ve been on since December! So, here we go…)

Back in December, I joined a wellness program to try and get back on track with my diet and exercise. I wasn’t having any luck losing the weight that I gained from the steroids I took in 2021, and I figured I needed someone to keep me accountable.

The program provides guidance when it comes to healthier eating, sustainable exercise habits, and my overall wellbeing. While diet and exercise were certainly at the top of my list of what I wanted to focus on, I realized that without a routine in my life, those two things didn’t really fall in to place like I wanted them to.

So now that I’ve established a morning and evening routine, I’ve been able to focus on my eating habits and be able to plan my full body workouts and my runs/walks more efficiently.

Since December, I’ve been able to 1) eat without guilt and also make smarter choices when it comes to what I eat and drink; 2) lose 12 pounds without feeling like I was restricting myself and 3…

PR IN THE 5K DISTANCE!! Well, at least since having my first child in 2017!

Today I ran the Worcester County Girls on the Run Spring 5K. The course took us through downtown Worcester, starting and ending at Polar Park. It was mostly flat with some gradual uphills and downhills. There was a short, steep uphill right in the park and then a fantastic downhill until the finish.

My official time was 27:57, placing 20 out of over 600 runners!

My times and endurance continue to get better and better. I ran a hilly, hot 5 miler a couple of weeks ago and I still managed to stay under 10 minute miles! Running up hills has become easier for me and running has actually become fun again.

Back in 2010-2012, I was able to squeak out some 25/26 minute races and even ran a 10K in 57 minutes, but at that point in my life, my diet wasn’t the best. I wasn’t able to maintain those paces and they would fall back into the 30-32 minutes for 5K’s and I couldn’t break an hour in the 10K distance for years after that.

I feel so good about everything going on in my life that I’m confident I can get under an hour in the 10K and perhaps I could even PR. Everything is just falling into place and I know the hard work is paying off.

On to the 10K on June 25th!!
