Running is great for your body. It will increase your energy levels and help you clear your mind.
I’ve been on a lot of running forums that claim that running too much can hurt your knees and cause damage. I will say that I can attest to the fact that only running will do that; a combination of strength training can help you from getting injured. (Of course, this is based on my experience!)
Back in 2010 I trained for my one and only marathon (so far…) and I did NOT do any cross training or strength training (total newbie). About halfway through, I developed a build up of fluid behind my knees that made them stiff and squishy. I could hardly kneel down.
It might not be obvious in this picture, but I couldn’t kneel down between them to take a picture, my legs are only slightly bent. Haha.
I took it easy on the running for a bit and managed to finish the race. But it took a few more years to really understand the importance of cross training.
But when it comes to energy and clearing your mind? Absolutely. To me, it does both of those things. Which is why I continue to run still, after 18 years of it.
